Since 2001, the University of Michigan’s Center for Sustainable Systems has developed a growing set of factsheets that cover topics including energy, water, food, waste, buildings, materials, and transportation systems. Each factsheet presents important patterns of use, life cycle impacts and sustainable solutions. They are designed to inform policymakers, business professionals, students and teachers. The factsheets are peer-reviewed and updated annually.

The 2023 edition contains more than 2,300 facts and 138 graphics compiled from over 1,000 sources.

As a complement to these factsheets, CSS has compiled a collection of resources for K-12 teachers, including approximately 200 videos, podcasts, games and activities, grouped by medium within the sustainability topic to which they apply. To help educators to select the optimal resources for their purposes, CSS has provided grade level recommendations, the duration of the resource, and a brief description of the content and purpose.
