On behalf of the MUSE Organizing Committee*, you are cordially invited to participate in the inaugural Michigan University-wide Sustainability and Environment (MUSE) conference and workshop, to be held February 9-10, 2017, on campus at the Palmer Commons. The purpose of the gathering is to foster connections and new collaborations across the broad suite of sustainability and environment-related research at the University of Michigan. We welcome involvement from all those advancing knowledge on related topics, including those in the humanities and the social, physical, natural, and engineering sciences.

MUSE will bring together graduate students along with University leadership, faculty, and research fellows for a mixture of interdisciplinary lectures, panel discussions, poster sessions, and network- and skill-building activities. Opportunities will be provided to present both early-stage and final findings from research. Participation among researchers at all stages of their careers (early to senior) will allow new opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and learning about new developments in fields relevant to your work. A committee will award prizes for outstanding early career contributions.

Please consider participating in this first-of-its-kind gathering by submitting a short abstract. Abstracts on topics related to sustainability and environment may include (but are not limited to) human and social behavior, built environment and infrastructure, land use, water, energy systems, climate change, public health, and ecosystems. Sessions cutting across these and other themes will be designed once abstracts have been reviewed by a selection committee. Please consider presenting either on specific research outcomes or on broader themes that convey your research interests.

Oral and poster presentation opportunities are available. Opportunities are available for sharing preliminary results or short summaries of research, as well as longer time slots for more extensive presentations. When submitting an abstract you may elect to mark it as “Preliminary Results” for special sessions designed to facilitate mentorship and constructive feedback.

The deadline for abstract submission is Tuesday, November 10. Please submit your abstract here.

For questions concerning the MUSE conference or about your abstract submission, please write to muse-conference@umich.edu. Please feel free to pass this invitation along to colleagues at the University of Michigan that you think might be interested.

Sincerely,
